During the interwar period the development of armored formations and vehicles determined the need for certain units in the Army. Unfortunetaly Polish economy was quite outdated and could not compare to the other European countries, especially III Reich. That forced HQ to expand the cavalry formations, traditional and iconic for Polish armed forces. Those units could fight both on foot and mounted, depending on the combat situation. With high mobility and speed cavalry were perfect for countryside and roadless fields – horses could reach places inaccessible for vehicles. Such maneuverability was used not only for recon and transportation, but also often in the combat itself – but not in the way shown in German propaganda after the September Campaign. During the war cavalry showed its usefullness and were well-led, causing numerous problems for the Germans.
