Before the outbreak of II World War the need for viable Anti-Tank gun was significant in the Polish Army. In 1935 HQ have decided to buy a licence for a Swedish 37mm Bofors and the production begun. Both infantry and cavalry formations were acompanied by AT platoons equiped with Bofors guns, but the limited time for development of Anti-Tank units made it impossible to reach the expected outcome. On the 1st September only 900 37mm Bofors (of the planned 3000) have been produced and handed over to the Army. Relatively light and transported by a horse-drawn carriages AT-guns were quite mobile, even in the rough conditions of Polish countryside. Firepower was also significant – in 1939 37mm caliber was enough to destroy any German or Soviet armored vehicle at range of 400-500 meters.
